Driving to Belize
Buses arrive in Belize City from all inland destinations in Belize. Several villages in the Belize District and Northern
Belize also have daily bus service to Belize District. The main bus station for Buses is on West Canal Street on the South
side of Haulover Bridge. James Bus uses the Texaco Station about one block away for their hub. Private buses from the villages
arrive at various points in the city.
I have found the best way to get the Bus into Belize is to catch the express coach from Cancun Bus station to Chetumal,
you can get a shuttle from Cancun Airport, you will need the farthest left ticket office for Chetumal and payment can be made in
U.S. Dollars or Pesos. The trip will take you 6 hours, and the bus will stop about half way for refreshments supplied by some
nice ladies with trays of Mexican delights, The bus is air conditioned and has a toilet it shows films sometimes in
English, you will probably arrive in Chetumal at night so it is best to book a hotel room for an overnight rest, the
Holiday Inn offers you a good bed and nice breakfast, when you are ready catch a Taxi to the Belize border post
and pick up the bus on the other side, I recommend that you only travel on the bus in Belize during daylight hours
6.00 am to 6.00 pm it is safer. The Bus will stop at Orange Walk for a rest stop and refreshments for around 10 mins, make sure
you keep the bus in sight or have one of your party stay with the Bus in case it goes without you. It will take around 4 Hours to
get to Bleize City unless you catch the rare Express bus, I have yet to find it but rumours say it does exist. On your return
trip try and get the early Bus around 8.00 The Buses run about every half an hour to Chetumal, it is best to pick it up at the
Bus station to be sure of a seat. The bus will take you to the Belize Border where you will have to show your passport and pay
about $37.00 Belize to exit the country so make sure you keep some Belize Dollars for this, back on the Bus for the short trip to
the Mexican Border, here you will have to get off the bus again with all your luggage to go through the Mexican Customs don't
forget to get your customs exit forms from the border post you will need them to get out of Mexico. The Bus will wait for you on
the other side by the Taxi rank and take you into Chetumal, if you catch the Venus Bus it will take you directly to the Chetumal
Bus station so you can catch the bus to Cancun you will need ticket office no 1, you can pay for your ticket it Pesos U.S.
Dollars or Belize Dollars your trip will take you 6 hours.
